Easy Cathedral Window Pillow - LOCKPORT

Learn the easy way to create a gorgeous cathedral window block that can be turned into
a stunning pillow. Once you see how easy it is to make this complex looking block, you
may even want to make a bunch and turn them into a quilt!

Required supplies
1. Fabric: Please cut squares at home so we have plenty of time to sew in class.
**For best cutting results, press fabric with Best Press before cutting your
squares
○ Background fabric: ¼ yard cut into (16) 4” squares. In the photos above,
the background is white. You can use any color or even make the
background squares scrappy using all different colors.
○ Frame fabric: ½ yard cut into (32) 4” squares. In the photos above, the
frames are black polka dot (left photo) and white (right photo). You can
make the frames the same color as the background - just make sure there
is plenty of contrast with your ‘window’ fabric. I think you want all the
frames to be the same color so that they show off the pretty windows
best.
○ Window fabric: at least (8) 4 ½” squares. If you want all of the windows to
be different (like the above photo on the right), you’ll need (13) 4 ½ “
squares.
○ (2) 14 ½ X 10” pieces for the back of the pillow
○ Polyfill or a 14” square pillow form - you can get these later (you don’t have
to bring this to class)
2. Sewing machine with clear foot (the kind you would use for machine applique if
your machine has one - otherwise just a regular straight stitch foot will work fine)
3. 90/14 top stitch needle
4. Quality thread that matches your ‘frame’ fabric and looks great as the top
stitching (we suggest Aurifil or Quilter’s Select)
5. Scissors
6. Pins

Supplies that are nice to have
Bring them if you can!
1. Mini iron and ironing surface
2. Stiletto (my favorite is the “purple thang”)
3. Small cutting mat
4. Blade saver (gadget that cuts the thread between chain stitched pieces)
5. Wonder clips
