September is National Sewing Month

The observance of September as National Sewing Month began with a proclamation from President Ronald Reagan. In 1982, he declared this special month-long celebration “In recognition of the importance of home sewing to our Nation.” Subsequent Proclamations declared that “Tens of millions of Americans sew at home. Their efforts demonstrate the industry, the skill and the self-reliance which are so characteristic of this Nation.”

National Sewing Month is the recognition of a creative form of self-expression that we celebrate in September, but enjoy all year. The month-long Open House of retailers, bloggers, online stores, schools, organizations, individuals and more is a great time to renew interest, share ideas, be inspired, expand your knowledge and express your creativity. Happy sewing!

Stitched up Stories coming up...

Giuseppe Ribaudo - Giucy Giuce

Giuseppe Ribaudo (aka Giucy Giuce) grew up in Long Island, NY. From a Sicilian-American family, his grandmother taught him to sew at an early age, though it wasn’t until he was in college that he discovered quilting. Giuseppe quickly found himself making long distance friends in the quilting community via Instagram and social media. He has work with Andover Fabrics in marketing and as a multimedia manager. He then turned his focus to fabric design and released his first collection Quantum. The rest, as they say, is history! Giuseppe currently resides in Maine where he continues to design fabric and patterns and teach quilting classes.
